Woman Survives 10 Days In Sahara Desert After An Attempt To Go To Europe

A 22-year-old Nigerian woman attempting to migrate into Europe via the harsh Sahara Desert survived after being abandoned by traffickers for 10 days.
The International Organisation for Migration said the woman, given the nickname Adoara, was the only female among the survivors of a rescue mission on May 28.
“She left Nigeria in early April hoping for a better future in Europe.
“There were 50 migrants on the pick-up truck when it left Agadez for Libya, but only six are still alive today,” Giuseppe Loprete, Niger Chief of Mission for IOM, said.
Recounting her ordeal, the Nigerian survivor said:
“We were in the desert for 10 days. After five days, the driver abandoned us.

“He left with all of our belongings, saying he was going to pick us up in a couple of hours, but he never did,” she recalled.
During the next two days, 44 of the migrants died which persuaded the six left to start walking to look for help.
“We had to drink our own pee to survive,”  said the woman now in an IOM camp in Niamey, Niger.
She had left Nigeria with two close female friends, who both died in the desert.
“They were too weak to keep going,” she sadly remembers. “We buried a few, but there were just too many to bury and we didn’t have the strength to do it,” Adaora adds.
“I couldn’t walk anymore. I wanted to give up,” she recalls.
Two other migrants carried her until a truck driver picked them up and took them to local authorities who then alerted IOM staff in Dirkou in the Agadez Region of north-eastern Niger.
By the time the six survivors reached IOM’s transit centre in Dirkou, Adaora was unconscious.
She received medical assistance, and once recovered, she gave a detailed account of her experience to both the authorities and IOM staff. Two of the other migrants from the group went back with IOM staff and the authorities to find the bodies and identify the victims.
After having received medical assistance at IOM’s transit centres in both Dirkou and Agadez, Adaora is currently recovering at IOM’s transit centre for migrants in Niamey, awaiting her imminent voluntary return to Nigeria.
Adaora says she had no idea what the route was going to be like, otherwise she would have never left Nigeria. Going back, she wants to continue her work as a nurse. “I think it’s important we all assist each other when we are in need,” she says.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said it rescued no fewer than 600 people since April 2017 through a new search and rescue operation that targeted migrants stranded in Sahara Desert.
The UN migration agency, however, regretted 52 migrants, mostly from The Gambia, Nigeria, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire, died over the period, according to its statement on Tuesday.

Wyclef Jean States His Reason For Naming His Lead Single '' Fela Kuti ''

Set to release his album ‘Carnival III: The Fall and Rise of a Refugee’, in September 2017, three-time Grammy Award winner, Wyclef Jean, has revealed why his first track off the album was titled ‘Fela Kuti’.

In his interview with XXL Magazine, the Haitian rapper and Musician said the lead song is inspired by the Nigerian Afrobeat legend and it samples his ‘Eko Ile’ track.

He went further to disclose that he named it Fela Kuti because he wants kids not just to download the song but Google Fela and know who he’s and what he means.

Wyclef also revealed that he  shared some things with the late Nigerian music legend, which includes studying Jazz in the UK, contested for President in their respective countries and had their songs helping the poor masses to reach out to the government.

‘I decided to name it Fela Kuti because, for me, I feel like we be thinking of [Bob] Marley, we give a lot of people from our past props, so when the kids hear Fela Kuti, I really want them to Google it.

Fela Kuti studied jazz in England. Wyclef studied jazz at Vailsburg High School. Fela Kuti then went back to his country and tried to help his country by running for president. Wyclef, you know, did the same thing.

Then, Fela, through all his obstacles and all that, his music is what pillared him right back to the top. He understood the strongest way to help politically was to make sure the music was bangin’. So for me, the same way kids can have songs called ‘Wyclef Jean’ who are influenced by me, I want kids to know who Fela is and what he means.”

Woman Kills Step Daughter, Inserts Vibrator Into Her Private Part To Pretend She Was Raped

A married woman has killed her little stepdaughter in a brutal manner before going ahead to insert a vibrator in her private part.
According to Manica Post, the woman who brutally attacked her six-year-old stepdaughter with an axe-handle, leaving her for dead before inserting a vibrator in her privates in a futile attempt to present the minor as a rape victim was yesterday (Thursday) sentenced to 23 years imprisonment.
Tendai Happiness Bwanya (47) was convicted of murder by High Court Judge, Justice Charles Hungwe. Her brutality resulted in the death of Rumbidzai Ndoro in August last year. In sentencing her, Justice Hungwe expressed shock at Bwanya’s heartlessness.
Justice Hungwe said as young as Rumbidzai was, she would not have provoked her stepmother to punish her the way Bwanya did.
Justice Hungwe said: “The horrendous nature of the wounds that were on the child’s body at the time of her body speaks volumes of the inhuman treatment and horrors she went through at your hands while she was still alive.”
Justice Hungwe said it was people like Bwanya who taint the image of all step-mothers because of the inhuman treatment she subjected the six-year old child to.
“It is a bad case of cruelty, domestic violence as well as child abuse and it is a wonder that you are actually a mother of a grown up child who is still alive.
“As if that was not enough, you went further and crafted a web of lies which you told your husband, friend, the police and this court thinking that you will evade your befitting punishment,” said Justice Hungwe.
Justice Hungwe was referring to Bwanya’s testimony in court that she had seen an unidentified man leaving her house and that the child had told her that she had been raped.
Justice Hungwe said if the child had been raped indeed, Bwanya would not have dissuaded her husband from making a police report and that after he had left for the police, she should not have kept on cleaning the mess in the house as cover up of the evidence.
After being arrested, she escaped lawful custody and asked her friend, Gladys Nyabereka to go and collect some money, clean clothes and her travelling documents as well as disperse mourners who had gathered at her house. Bwanya was arrested for the second time, after being caught hiding under Nyabereka’s bed.

Lagos State To Add Scabble To Curriculum

Adetona Odukomaiya, Technical Director of the Lagos State Scrabble Association, on Friday, said plans were underway to add scrabble to schools’ curriculum in the state.

Odukomaiya told newsmen that the association had been working closely with the State Ministry of Education to ensure its implementation. “We have introduced scrabble as a game in all schools in Lagos state. We are now adding scrabble to the schools’ curriculum in the state.

“We have coaches who go into the schools to train the students every day. Scrabble is all about English Language and introducing it will increase the vocabulary of the students.

“It will also make them much more aware of English words and help them in their final result in English language in WAEC examinations and others.

“It is also going to open up the students to the advantage of playing scrabble, such as getting scholarships,’’ he said. Odukomaiya described the state as the hub of scrabble in Nigeria, adding that the state was working hard to produce the next world champion.

He expressed hope that the Lagos Classic would be held later this year or in 2018. The state won the 2017 Asaph Zadok National Scrabble Championship.

Man Drives Nail Into Nephew's Head For Alledgedly Stealing #500

Lagos State Police Command is yet to prosecute Mr. John Paul six days after he was handed over to the Police for reportedly driving a three-inch nail into the skull of his eight years old nephew, Friday Paul.

It was learned that the Sagamu Road Police Division, Ikorodu, which has been handling the matter since Saturday, did not alert the State Police Command until yesterday evening, when Vanguard contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, for update. Vanguard had, on Monday, reported that one Mr. Paul allegedly drove a three-inch nail into Friday’s skull, who he accused of stealing N500. But the eight-year-old boy denied the act, which infuriated his uncle.

Eyewitnesses said Friday, an orphan, was tortured by his uncle before the nail was driven into his skull. But doctors at Saviour The Rock Hospital, Odogunyan, Ikorodu, successfully removed the nail last Sunday and the boy is said to be recuperating. Nail-in-head-boy Friday Paul The weekend incident attracted sympathisers, who handed the suspect to the Police in Sagamu Road Division, Ikorodu, but as at yesterday he was yet to be prosecuted.

The PPRO said the case is a sensitive one and the Command may seek the assistance of the state institutions against child abuse or Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for advice, on the next line of action. He said: “The case is sensitive and the Police may have to call one of the state institutions against child abuse or Directo-rate of Public Prosecutions for advice before prosecution. “Keep in mind that the boy is also under-aged. These are all grey areas we have to consider.”

Meanwhile, the Senior Medical Doctor with the private hospital, Adelana Odumabo, said he had to rescue the boy first because it is necessary to save life, adding that the deposit was not sufficient but he went the extra mile to rescue the boy. He added that the boy’s health was stable, but that he is still under observation.

Man Caught By His Wife Having Sex With A Goat

A 42-year-old father of six children, Babangida Garba, who alleged that his wife usually starved him of sex, has been arrested in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State for having sex with a goat.

Garba, who was paraded alongside other suspects for various criminal offences by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Abdullahi, yesterday, admitted that he committed the offence.

The incident was said to have occurred in Ungwar Mata, Funtua council, where Garba was said to have had intercourse with his neighbour’s goat.

The Police Commissioner, who described the offence as “unnatural,” explained further that the wife caught the suspect in the act and reported the matter to the Police.

According to the CP, “on June 15, Garba was caught by his wife having sex with a goat. She reported the case at Makera Division, Funtua Local Government Area and he was arrested.

“At that point she said it was the second time she was seeing her husband in such act. The wife caught him around 2a.m. The case was later transferred to the state headquarters.” Others paraded alongside Garba were Nuradeen Ado of Yar Unguwa Birchi, Kurfi Local Government Area, who Police said murdered a commercial tricycle operator and dumped the corpse in a well.

Man Wakes Up In India After Being Declared Dead In Australia

A Nigerian man who was declared dead by medical doctors in Australia and resurrected in India – has shared his ordeal.

The man who was identified as John Samuel was said to have suffered from a heart related ailment which led to his death on Wednesday, June 13, by 4pm in Australia but on Thursday, June 14, the young man was said to have resurrected around 8am in India.
In a chat with Ika Weekly, Mr. Samuel Anayo Ugwute recounts his experience at the cruel hands of death, and how God saved him.

Please can we meet you?
I am Mr. Samuel Anayo Ugwute, an indigene of Ebonyi State, born and brought up in Owa-Alero Delta State.

Can you share with us your experience?
About four months ago, I was diagnosed of in ventricular center defect that is a hole within the walls of my ventricle. It is a serious cardialogical problem said to be common with infants. After several cardiological examinations which proved positive, the doctors said my heart was already condemned and the only solution was to go for a heart transplant.
The initial minor surgery carried out to cover the holes proved abortive. So, I was asked to go for an orthopedic heart transplant which cost 24 million naira including other expenses. There was no money. We wrote to the state government who assisted with a little sum. My church assisted me; friends and family contributed too, my surgeon Prof, Tamson, a consultant cardiologist who has worked in India for over 20 years before coming back to Nigeria took up my case because he said in over 200 cases he has done in cardiology, my case was different and rare. He spent huge sums of money on my case; he used his influence to attract many Heart Foundations to subsidize the cost of the operation.
The surgery was scheduled to take place 4 weeks ago, but because I could not come up with enough money for flight, and other expenses, the schedule was aborted. Unfortunately, more complications arose because I was unable to meet up after hundred days time frame of carrying an artificial heart elapsed.
Finally I gathered enough money, and I left for India on Friday, June 9, 2017, but the doctors turned me back because I was four weeks late, and there was no way I was going to survive. So my doctor through his influence contacted a friend in Australia who had a private jet, and I was flown straight to Australia in a flight which lasted for 12 hours. On getting to Australia, the doctors there said there was 80 percent chance of death, and 20 percent of survival. When I heard this I turned to my family for prayers. Before going into the theatre, I prayed to God and reminded Him of my covenant of life with Him.

Entering the theatre, I gave up the ghost as the first knives cut to get the position.
Having given up the ghost, I was told they recorded the death time as 4am of the fateful, my family was contacted and my corpse was taken back to India in another 13 hours flight; on getting back to India, my corpse was deposited in the mortuary, but after some minutes I woke up and I felt cold so I started shouting and when one of the nurses heard me, instead of coming to my rescue she ran away out of fear. My surgeon heard me and came to bring me out from the mortuary. Coming out I discovered that my whole body was covered in formalin, a preservative used on dead bodies.

At this development, my family was contacted telling them I am alive. After having a warm bath to wash off the formalin, I saw everybody dancing and rejoicing at the hospital in India, I was speechless, the only word that came out from my mouth was take me home. All through the period I was pronounced dead, all I could see were doctors on white performing a surgery on me. I ended up not having the surgery I went for, and after another round of cardiological examination, the doctors found out that there were no longer holes in my heart, everything disappeared, and that I was perfectly, okay. I kept on insisting to go home, and after my doctor in Nigeria was contacted to tell him I was perfectly okay, they took me to the airport and I boarded my flight to Lagos.
People in India were rejoicing, calling my situation a miracle. “My surgeon received me in Lagos amidst tears; he was the one who told me the news of my death had circulated. In a bid to actually confirm the report of the doctors in India, he took me into the lab for examinations, and he arrived at the same conclusion. I came back to Agbor yesterday being June 14, 2017 totally okay and fine.

I thank God, because I know He heard the prayers of my father when the surgeon told my father I was dead, he rejected the news, his faith kept me going, the prayer of my Pastors as well as that of my father, Pastor John Ugwute brought me back.

Teenage Mother Ties Baby's Nose And Mouth And Dump Her In A Bush

A 19-year-old secondary school leaver identified as Ayomide Adebayo, who allegedly dumped her 2-month-old baby in a bush in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state, has been apprenhended by operatives of the Lagos State Police Force.

According to a report by Punch Metro, the suspect who was allegedly impregnated by one Martins Tewogbade, who lives in the Bariga area of the state, gave birth on April 30 at a private hospital in the neighbourhood.

It was gathered that Tewogbade’s parents reportedly rejected the baby and she subsequently relocated with the child to a friend’s house in Igbode, Ogun State.

Reports revealed that Adebayo approached a worker at a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in the town sometime in May 2017 and begged the woman to take custody of the child.

The baby was in the care of the church worker, identified as Mrs. Joke Fatai, until Saturday, June 10, when Adebayo went to withdraw her. She was said to have tied the baby’s mouth and nose, dumped her in the bush and returned to Bariga, telling people that the child was dead.

The baby was found by some members of a vigilance group in the early hours of Sunday in a bush in Ikorodu, Lagos State, and was later reunited with Fatai. The babysitter and residents of Igode eventually traced Adebayo to Bariga.

While speaking to a correspondent, a resident of Bariga, Yusuf Tolagbe, said an angry crowd wanted to beat up the mother, but for the intervention of a child rights organisation in the area, Child Protection Network.
He said, “Ayomide’s (Adebayo) mother died shortly after giving birth to her. Her father’s whereabouts is unknown. She was living with an elderly man. She has finished her secondary school education.

“Last year, the man observed that she was pregnant. After prodding her, she said it was Martins (Tewogbade), an apprentice, that impregnated her. But the boy’s parent did not accept the pregnancy, claiming that it belonged to a taxi driver, who they usually saw her with.

“She left the community after she gave birth in April and came back on Sunday, telling people that the baby was dead. It was when the woman (Fatai) and some people came on Monday with the baby that we discovered she was lying.”
The Coordinator, Child Protection Network, Toyin Okanlawon, said the case was reported to the police at the Bariga division, adding that the mother and Tewogbade had been transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command’s Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.

He said, “The babysitter explained that she saw the mother back the baby carelessly and corrected her. She later came to meet the woman to help her take care of the baby. The woman took care of the baby and Ayomide till June 10 when she carried the baby to the bush in Ikorodu. She tied her mouth and nose in an attempt to kill her, but the vigilantes saw the baby in the bush at night and rescued her.

“The boy did not deny to the police that he impregnated the girl. Presently, both of them are at the police command. The baby has been handed over to Martin’s mother for care.”

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the police would work with the state government to ensure the safe custody of the baby, while Adebayo and Tewogbola were under investigations.

He said, “For now, we cannot confirm that she attempted to kill the baby. She said she just dropped her in the bush. It is possible she wanted to abandon her and run away. We are still investigating and a test has to be conducted to determine her mental state.

“We will look for a guardian who can take care of the child. It may be a close relative or an institution made available by the state. The boy is also under investigation.”

Man Constipated From Birth Undergoes Surgery, Surgeons Remove 28 Pounds Of Feaces

An unnamed man has found relief after surgeons successfully operated and removed 30 inches of his man’s large intestine.

According to reports, the 22-year-old man was diagnosed to have been born with a congenital condition known as Hirschsprung’s disease – also known as “HD”.

This is a rare condition involving a building-up of constipation throughout his life, that is, his stool cannot pass because of a lack of nerves in some muscles inside his colon.

As a result, the man’s abdomen began to bulge at a very young age – to the point where people thought he appeared heavily pregnant.

He had to rely on laxatives and other constipation medicine to force bowel movements to happen until he sought medical attention presumably because of intense discomfort.

Doctor Yin Lu and his team of experts at the 10th People’s Hospital of Shanghai, in East China, met with the man and claimed they were stunned by the size of the man’s abdomen, noting that “it looked like it could explode at any time.”

The medic’s instinct told him that the patient was suffering from a form of megacolon and tests quickly confirmed that the young man had months’ – if not years’ – worth of faeces trapped in the degenerative section of his colon.

He was taken into what was eventually a three-hour surgery to have 76 centimetres (30 inches) of his large intestine removed.

It was stitched closed at either end to prevent his stool from falling out and was in the end measured at some 13 kilogrammes (28 lbs).

MASSOB Disowns Nnamdi Kanu, Meets Northern Group, Preaches Peace

Ralph Uwazurike, leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has appealed for peace as he holds consultation with Northern groups in Kaduna.

Mr. Uwazurike, who led a delegation of Igbo leaders from the South East, told some youth groups in Kaduna on Monday that MASSOB had pursued the path of peace since its creation in 1999.

“MASSOB had existed for 18 years without violence, but in 2009, I went to London and opened Radio Biafra and handed it over to Nnamdi Kanu as the director.

“Soon afterwards, politicians hijacked him, and he started working for them.

“The radio that was meant to educate our people and advise our people was turned into the source of hate messages, blackmail, intimidation and others.

“The resultant effect was that the northern youths came up to challenge us, to say that they are not happy with the hate messages and the insults they receive from the same radio.

“ I am here today to say that the main purpose of floating the organisation called MASSOB was not to cause crisis in Nigeria.

“I assured the late Odumegu Ojukwu when he was alive that there would be no other civil war in Nigeria.

“Because he, Ojukwu was so concerned and wanted some measure of assurance from me that MASSOB would not cause problems in Nigeria and I gave him that assurance.

“And I am today disappointed, that the assurances I gave, may not see the light of the day, if certain measures were not taken, and that is why I am here in Arewa House today.”
He assured of the safety of the northerners resident in the South East and urged them to continue with their businesses in the area.

“I am here to assure you northerners that all your people in the South East are safe and nobody will harass them.
“And, I am happy to hear my friend, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, who assured of the safety of lives and property of Nd’Igbo in Northern region.”

Mr. Uwazurike averred that the crisis in the country was being manipulated by politicians and urged the youth not to allow themselves to be used.

He, however, stressed the need to address perceived marginalization, adding that although it was right for any part of the country to seek self determination, it was wrong to pursue same through violent means.

“Self determination without violence is a fundamental right, we must strive against sowing the seed of discord ‎but do all that will promote peace and justice.
“There is a gap of communication from our leaders which needs to be bridged, hence we are meeting with notable leaders in the north to persuade them that there is no cause for alarm,“ he said.
Meanwhile, Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, Sani Abacha, who convened the meeting, said it was in response to recent quit notice issued by some northern groups to Igbos.
He said the meeting was to intervene in the impasse threatening the unity and oneness of the country.
According to Mr. Al-Mustapha‎, the youths need to wear their thinking caps, use their brains and refuse to be used in fomenting any form of crisis in the country.
He said current events may not be unconnected with external forces wanting to see Nigeria disintegrate.
Mr. Al-Mustapha also cautioned the youth against making statements that would further cause tension in the country, in spite of the unpleasant comments from IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
He appealed to the Kaduna State Government and the Inspector General of Police to withdraw the arrest threat on the youth leaders who issued the Kaduna Declaration.

Sex Slave Chained Inside Shipping Container For Two Months By Serial Killer

Police rescued a woman who was kept prisoner for two months by a serial killer and raped repeatedly. When police found the 30-year-old woman in a shipping container, she was sitting on the floor with chain around her neck.

Police have release a video of them releasing Kala Brown. The video also shows her captor, Todd Kohlhepp, confessing to killing 7 people in South Carolina.

He pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty and was sentenced to life in prison.

Todd lures his victims by promising them work.

Todd was discovered after Kala and her boyfriend, Charles Carver, 32, went missing last November. When investigators went in search of Kala and  Charles last November, they found three  bodies on Todd's property. After being rescued, on the way to the hospital, Kala told officers about how Todd confessed to killing a married couple before she was captured, and about killing four people at a Spartanburg County motorcycle shop – murders that were unsolved for 13 years. Todd also confessed after authorities let him talk to his mother and promised to give her money from his accounts.

On Friday, prosecutors released several videos, dozens of pictures and hundreds of pages of evidence against Todd. He bragged in one video about wearing gloves when loading his gun to assure no fingerprints were on the casings.

Todd also killed 29-year-old Johnny Coxie and 26-year-old Leigh McCraw-Coxie in December 2015. They, like Carver and Brown, were lured to Todd’s land after he promised them work.

Todd killed Coxie immediately and tried to keep McCraw-Coxie locked away, but he said he killed her after several days because she tried to burn the container after he gave her cigarettes.
"She wanted Little Caesar’s pizza. I hate that (expletive). It gives me heartburn,” Todd said. "Dr. Pepper, cinnamon rolls and freaking Newports. If you go down to that building, you’ll find an unused package of Newports that I bought for her."
Todd denied killing anyone else, though he admitted he shot a man in Arizona when he was 14, but could give few details. Todd moved to South Carolina in 2001 after 14 years in prison for a kidnapping in Arizona. Authorities there said the then 15-year-old Kohlhepp forced a 14-year-old neighbor back to his home at gunpoint, tied her up and raped her.
